Steer Wrestler Will Lummus Talks Elecrtic San Diego Rodeo Win, Rodeo Growth and More

Will Lummus continues to win the big bucks as San Diego Rodeo is added to his list.

Of the four runs that Will Lummus made in Petco Park, his slowest would come in quick at 4.5 seconds and his fastest would come at the perfect time. Lummus walked away with the San Diego Rodeo title after putting a 3.5-second run on the leaderboard.

“They took care of the cowboys and the cowgirls. They put us up at the Hardrock Hotel there and it was about 100 yards from the actual arena. They had a little VIP bar and food area there in the out field so that was awesome. They had great seats for our family, yeah it was just awesome,” Lummus said,

The steers in San Diego included what Lummus said was a redemption steer for him in the Eight-Man Round. After a rough run at the National Finals Rodeo, Lummus got it right in San Diego.

“I was excited to get to run him again and get a little payback,” he said.

Payback came on the back of Curtis Cassidy’s Tyson, a horse that Lummus says is just a simple horse who is easy in the box and scores awesome.

With seven trips to Las Vegas under his belt and the sport of rodeo continuing to grow, Lummus’ perspective is changing too.

“It’s awesome that people are stepping up and doing these things, just like the deal in Arizona, the Hondo, and you know the Kid Rock n Rodeo and WCRA. There’s a lot of big events that popping up where a guy can go win $15-20,000... I feel like we’re making a move to a more mainstraim, professional sport with all of that stuff, with the draft and all that. It’s cool to be a part of that, I just hate I’m kind of on the back side of my career when all of it’s kind of starting to happen,” Lummus said.
