Stockyard Sessions: Pam Tillis Talks Family Legacy, The Grand Ole Opry and More

Country music icon Pam Tillis joins us on Stockyards Sessions as she made her way to Fort Worth, Texas to perform at the legendary Will Rogers Coliseum. Tillis shared insights into her career, her musical influences, and her aspirations for the future.

Pam Tillis, daughter of country music icon Mel Tillis, credits her success to her determination. While she was influenced by her father’s career, she carved out her own unique path in the industry, receiving praise for her distinct sound and captivating stage presence.

Reflecting on her father’s pride in her achievements, Tillis fondly remembers his support and encouragement. Mel Tillis, a successful country music artist in his own right, instilled in his children the value of pursuing their passions and focusing on their individual talents.

Throughout her career, Tillis has achieved numerous milestones, such as six number one songs, three CMA awards, and two Grammy awards. Despite her many successes, she struggles to choose a favorite career moment. However, being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry stands out as an especially significant highlight, representing her strong bond with the country music community and its traditions.

Tillis also reminisced about memorable collaborations with iconic artists such as Kenny Rogers, George Jones, Dolly Parton, and Alison Krauss. These experiences were not only rewarding in a professional aspect, but personal as well.

In recent years, Tillis has formed close friendships with other female artists, performing together on tours like “Grits and Glamour” with Lorrie Morgan and “Chicks with Hits” with Suzy Bogguss and Terri Clark.

Looking ahead, Tillis remains open to new experiences and opportunities while approaching life with enthusiasm and continued excitement for the music industry.
