At 42-years-old, steer wrestler Matt Reeves is showing that age is just a number as he enters his eighth Wrangler NFR No. 1 in the bulldogging world standings.
Reeves won $86,944 in 2020 and more than half of that came at RFD-TV’s The American, where he earned $50,000 toward the PRCA World Standings.
In Arlington, Reeves stopped the clock at 4.05 seconds to win the Short Round.
“Like I’ve said several times, 40 has been good to me,” Reeves said after the win. “The year I turned 40 I won this (the 2018 American), I won Calgary, I won Salt Lake last year, I won the NFR last year, I won this (the American) again....You hang out with enough young kids you don’t feel that old.”

Reeves’ biggest check outside The American also came in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
He won $6,820 (and more than $12,000 for the rodeo) when he placed third in the Championship Round at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. His final three runs of that rodeo were all less than 5 seconds and two were sub-4.0.
Reeves continued his winning ways after Fort Worth by winning the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, where he was 3.9 and 3.7 in his last two runs.
San Angelo and The American were two of four rodeo wins for Reeves in the 2020 season. He also won the Texas Circuit Finals in January and the Cave Creek Days Rodeo in May. At both rodeos, he threw one down in under 4 seconds to secure the victory.

Reeves’ average run of 7.31 seconds in 2020 was his best mark since 2013, a year he finished as the Reserve World Champion.
