Jesse Brown didn’t start seriously rodeoing until he was 23-years-old in 2015. Five years later, he has qualified for the Wrangler NFR for the first time.

Brown’s average time of 5.24 seconds was more than 1.5 seconds lower than his previous career-best. The Oregon cowboy also had 25 runs of 4.2 seconds or less, besting his previous season-high of 11. Additionally, won six go-rounds in 2020, compared to 12 in the previous four years combined.

To get his year off on the right foot, Brown won more than $4,000 at the first major rodeo, the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo. In Denver, he finished second and had an eye-popping 3.1-second run in one of the performances.

Believe it or not, that wasn’t the only time Brown had a run of less than 3.3 seconds in 2020. At the ProRodeo Tour Finale, he stopped the clock at 3.2 seconds to win the second go-round, earning him $2,010 on the second-to-last day of the season, which proved critical as he qualified for the NFR in 15th place.

In addition to his terrific performance at the Tour Finale, Brown also won the Cattlemen’s Days in Gunnison, Colorado and the Gooding (Idaho) ProRodeo in September. Both of those wins came with checks of more than $2,000.

Brown also benefited from a great run over Cowboy Christmas. He placed in Belle Fourche, Cody, Oakley City, Kildeer and Big Fork between July 1-6, winning close to $12,000 total.
