There are plenty of past World Champions waiting in the wings to knockdown young tie-down roping superstar Shad Mayfield and proud cajun Shane Hanchey is one of them.

Hanchey comes to the 2020 Wrangler NFR as one of the most decorated ropers in the field. The 31-year-old won a Gold Buckle in 2013 and this is his 11th qualification to the National Finals.

Hanchey got off to a slow start to the 2020 season. Heading into Cowboy Christmas in July, he only had about $2,500 in yearlong earnings to his name, but that quickly changed.

The Louisiana cowboy placed in Belle Fourche, South Dakota) and Mandan, North Dakota.

He also won the Sitting Bull Stampede in Mobridge, South Dakota. Those three checks over the Fourth of July earned him $7,385 and put him right back in the mix for another NFR.

SHANE HANCHEY - 8.2 TO WIN IN MOBRIDGE

Hanchey stuck to his winning ways by earning three more checks of $2,000 or more in July, placing at rodeos in Nevada, South Dakota and Iowa. The Louisiana cowboy banked about $14,000 total in the month of July.

Hanchey continued his summer success by placing in seven rodeos in August, including a $6,162 payday for a first-place showing at the Fallon County Fair and Rodeo in Baker, Montana.

Hanchey won $104,910 at the 2019 Wrangler NFR and finished second in the world. He enters the 2020 Wrangler NFR No. 10 in the world.
