Red Rock and Lane Frost statue in production at Red Bluff

One of rodeo’s most iconic rivalries is being honored forever with bronze statue that will come with a six-figure price tag.

Lane Frost was the 1987 PRCA Bull Riding World Champion and Red Rock was the World Champion bull that same year. Following both of their titles, the Growney family, who owned Red Rock, wanted to create a special competition for the two of them.

So, the Challenge of Champions was born. At seven different rodeos, Frost and Red Rock faced off with Frost riding him four times. Before that challenge, no one had covered Red Rock in the bull’s more than 300 outs.

Now, the challenge will live on forever thanks to a $200,000 project from the Red Bluff Rotary Club and the Red Bluff Roundup Association. The organizations are creating a detailed bronze sculpture depicting Frost on the back of the world-famous bull.

The statue is expected to be completed by 2022.
