Despite dealing with a bruised sternum, three-time World Champion Tim O’Connell won three of the four bareback riding performances in Pool A at the Calgary Stampede. He sealed his first-place position by riding C5’s Black Feathers for 91.5 points on Monday afternoon.
“I’m pretty excited (to advance to Championship Sunday), my ribs are pretty sore. So to have five days off and have this great sports medicine team up here doing everything they’re doing for me is huge,” he said.
As for the horse, O’Connell was excited to draw Black Feathers.
“She does her thing every time, out of the left-hand delivery, circles around to the right, blows up and gives a guy a chance to show off. But she’s so flashy, that she’s getting off her style points too,” he said.

That was not O’Connell’s only 90+ point ride of the rodeo, on Day 1, he was 91 points on Arbitrator Joe. O’Connell has already won $16,000 at the Calgary Stampede and has advanced to Showdown Sunday.
Joining him on Sunday from Pool A are Richmond Champion ($13,500), Cole Franks ($12,500) and Dantan Bertsch ($9,500).
