Dakota Buttar leads the bull riders advancing from Pool A at the Calgary Stampede

Dakota Buttar was the No. 1 guy at the Calgary Stampede in the bull riding as he showed up in a very big way after a seven-month layoff due to injury.

Buttar went 3-for-4 and won Day 1 and Day 2. He was 90 points on Timber Jam to kick off the rodeo and 89.5 points on State Law the very next day. He won $15,500 overall in Pool A.

“It feels awesome to be riding again in front of fans, it was a long wait and I’m happy to be back,” Buttar said.

The others advancing from Pool A are JC Mortensen ($5,500), Cody Coverchuck ($4,500) and either Denton Fugate or Garrett Green ($3,500 apiece). Mortensen earned his spot in Championship Sunday with a much-needed 88.5-point ride to win the day money on Day 4.
