Caleb Bennett and Jess Pope each won two of the four rounds in the bareback riding in Pool B at the Calgary Stampede and all of four of the rides were 89.5 points or better.
Pope won the first two days with rides of 89.5 and 90 points respectively, but Bennett, who traveled with Pope up north, said he was coming for him after Day 2 and he did just that. Bennett was 91.5 points on Day 3 and 90 points on Day 4 to collect two $5,500 checks of his own.
“We’ve been with each other all week, it’s been fun battling it out back and forth,” Bennett said. “
Pope ultimately won Pool B with $17,000 to Bennett’s $15,250. Joining the two 2020 NFR qualifiers on Championship Sunday will be Orin Larsen ($15,000) and Anthony Thomas ($9,000).
“It’s my favorite day of the year (Sunday at the Calgary Stampede),” Bennett said. “I couldn’t be more excited to be going head to head with these guys against the pen of horses we’re matched up with. It’s gonna be fun, wild and electric, and I’m ready for it.”
