After winning his first World Championship in 2020, Shad Mayfield has not disappointed in 2021. The 21-year-old enters his third NFR No. 3 in the World Standings with $131,916.

Mayfield got off to a great start to the 2021 season by winning almost $8,000 in October thanks to a win at the Heart O’Texas Rodeo and a Go-Round win at the San Angelo Roping Fiesta.

After placing in three rounds in San Antonio in February and then winning the High Desert Stampede (Oregon) in March, Mayfield cemented himself as a cowboy that would stay in the Top 5 in the World Standings for a majority of the 2021 season.

Throughout his summer run, it was a big check or nothing at a lot of rodeos. In June, Mayfield placed at five rodeos and three of those checks were at least $3,000, the largest being $7,278 for his win at the Greeley Stampede. He stopped the clock at 7.2 seconds there, one of a career-high 14 times 7.5 seconds or faster he had in 2021.

July was Mayfield’s best month of the season. He started by placing in the Top 3 at three Cowboy Christmas rodeos with three times between 6.8 and 8.1 seconds. Those three rodeos earned more than $13,000. At The Calgary Stampede, he won two Go-Rounds and was second in another to win $15,500 and right after The Stampede, he won the Snake River Stampede (Idaho) and the Spanish Fork Fiesta Days (Utah). For the month, Mayfield won about $40,000 and registered eight times of 7.5 seconds or faster and three that were faster than 7 seconds.

To close the season, Mayfield won the Caldwell Night Rodeo in the middle of August in dominating fashion with three times between 7.6 and 7.8. He was also second at the Horse Heaven Roundup (Washington) at the end of August. He placed in all three rounds there and his fastest time was 7.4 seconds.
