Best Moments of 2021: The crowd gets behind the breakaway ropers in the Short Round in Reno

So many rodeos around the country added breakaway roping in 2021 and one of the best Short Rounds of the year came in Reno.

The crowd was loud for the entire Go-Round, but the loudest cheer came for JJ Hampton after the the 17-time World Champion stopped the clock at two seconds flat to seal the rodeo win.

Hampton was fired up after the victory, throwing her hat and fist-pumping her way through a mini victory lap.

“For me to get to rope, and in front of this great crowd, it’s really special ... I just want to thank the committee for stepping up and having breakaway and adding us to the perf,” she said. “What an amazing event for women, and the young women who are going to come rope after me, I mean this is phenomenal.”

Hampton won a total of nine rodeos in the breakaway roping in 2021 and finished No. 12 in the final WPRA Breakaway Roping World Standings.
