Like several other sports, the PBR Team Series will have a combine as part of its evaluation process for young riders and PBR Ring of Honoree JW Hart says that’s all part of the new philosophy most of these bull riders have.

“The guys today, they’re athletes, there’s some cowboys in there, but even the ones that are cowboys, they’re athletes because they work at it,” he said.

Hart said he truly realized the impact fitness can have on bull riding ability just a few years ago. In preparing to come out of retirement for one last bull in 2020, he had to workout for four months and drop 25 pounds to get ready to ride. He says he wishes he would’ve done more working out earlier in his career.

“It learnt me, a guy who was in really good physical shape, how much better he could be,” Hart said. “I look back on my career, I wish I would’ve worked out better and done things differently. I know for a fact I would’ve been a better bull rider.”

Hart will serve as the Head Coach of the Kansas City Outlaws in the PBR Team Series. You can see the full interview here.
