Coach J.W. Hart and the Kansas City Outlaws had the fourth overall pick in the PBR Team Series and would select Dalton Kasel with their first overall pick.
When looking at the draft board, Hart knew he needed one thing when making his picks... athletes. Hart told the Cowboy Channel, “The guys today, they’re athletes, there’s some cowboys in there, but even the ones that are cowboys, they’re athletes because they work at it,” he said.
Here is a breakdown of the roster the Kansas City Outlaws assembled.
1. Dalton Kasel
Dalton Kasel is just 23 years old but has plenty of experience on the best bulls in the world. Kasel finished the season in sixth place and had 11 90-point rides, which equals the total of his PBR career before the 2022 season. Kasel rode just under 40 percent of his bulls which is the second-lowest of any cowboy selected in the first round. Kasel took home three wins on the season and earned over $235,000 on the year.
2. Kyler Oliver
Kyle Oliver had a career year in 2022 and it shows with the Outlaws using their second overall pick on him. Before 2022, Oliver had not finished inside the Top 37, but in 2022 he finished in 10th place thanks to seven 90-point rides, which was five more than the rest of his career. Oliver’s ride percent on the season was 45 percent, which was seven percent higher than the rest of his career. Overall, Oliver is an exciting young rider just coming into his own and is expected to do big things for the Kansas City Outlaws.
3. Rafael Dos Santos
Rafael Dos Santos is the third overall selection for the Outlaws and has the ability to go big. While he only rode 33% of his bulls, he did exceed 90 points three times on the season. On the year, Dos Santos finished inside the Top 10 three times and earned just under $50,000.
4. Bob Mitchell
Bob Mitchell made his name known by making his first PBR World Finals at age 19 and holding off Clayton Sellars and Josh Frost to win Rookie of the Year. Mitchell had six Top 5s and 12 Top 10s in 2022.
5. Tate Pollmeier
Pollmeier is the definition of an unknown to the PBR tour. At just 18-years-old, Pollmeier doesn’t have a ride in the PBR. A pick for the futrue, any production from the young prospect the Outlaws get will be a massive boost to the team.
