The Texas Circuit Finals concluded on Oct. 13, meaning it crowned its champions before any other circuit this year.
The Finals in Waco brought, among other things, some brotherly love in the bareback riding and bronc riding as well as two barrel racers avenging just missing the 2023 NFR.
In the bareback riding, Leighton Berry entered the Fourth and Final Round with the lead before his younger brothers snagged the Circuit Finals title with 87.5 points on New Star’s Chosen One. Leighton left with a fine prize of his own, the Year-End Title in the Texas Circuit, meaning the two will compete together at the NFR Open.
Saddle bronc riding was a similar story. Entering the Texas Circuit Finals, Jacobs Crawley and sewn up the Year-End Championship already and it was his brother Sterling who won the Finals to punch his ticket to Colorado Springs come July. Sterling won a round and placed in all three others to win by 4.5 points.
There were two barrel racers in Sioux Falls for the Governor’s Cup Sept. 28-30 who missed the NFR, Ashley Castleberry and Kelly Allen. They decided the NFR Open was the next best thing. The duo entered the Fourth Round separated by less than a tenth of a second before Castleberry was 15.66 to take first in the Go-Round and the Texas Circuit Finals and Allen was 15.94 to take second in both. Allen was also the Year-End Champion in the barrel racing.
