The planning for the 125th Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo has been going on for two years.
Cal White is the Assistant Operations Manager of the FWSSR. Alongside the whole team in Fort Worth, White has worked to help make this year’s stock show and rodeo the best. This includes having over $1 million up for grabs at the rodeo and bringing back the breakaway roping with equal money.
“We’re very proud to host the breakaway roping here in Fort Worth and really enjoy having all the ladies and adding another dynamic event for young girls to come and watch,” White said.
There were some changes this year that came along with the tournament style format. There were seven qualifying rodeos across Texas where the champions in each event have a chance for the FWSSR. These qualifiers will be in specific brackets during the rodeo.
They also have a new barrelman this year, the one and only Matt Merritt. Merritt has brought new, fresh ideas to the rodeo after a successful history in the PBR. To top off the changes, they transitioned their Super Shootout into the Texas Champions Challenge. This will feature champions from San Angelo, San Antonio, Austin, Houston and Fort Worth competing head to head and they will also have a bullfight feature as well.
The FWSSR begins with the Best of the West Ranch Rodeo on January 14 at 8:30 PM ET on The Cowboy Channel and the The Cowboy Channel+ App.
