With big names and fast times, the barrel racing was one of the most exciting events to watch across the rodeos held this past week — particularly in Lawton and Sikeston, where new arena records were broken, more than once.
At the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo in Sikeston, Cheyenne Wimberley broke the record first with a fast time of 15.99 seconds, but as soon as she and Smooch took the lead, Ryann Pedone and Hollywood turned in a 15.91, breaking the record again. Pedone has moved from No.17 to 16 in the WPRA World Standings and is right on the bubble of NFR contention.
Reigning World Champion Hailey Kinsel, who finished third in Sikeston behind Wimberley and Pedone, was one of three barrel racers to break the arena record at the Lawton Rangers Rodeo, ultimately taking the title with a fast time of 16.90 seconds. This win came just after her historic run in Dodge City the previous week, where she and Sister not only set an arena record but also a new WPRA record on a standard pattern with a 16.63. Kinsel has moved into the No.2 spot in the Standings, currently trailing leader Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi by about $12,000.
