The Sky is the Limit for Loni Kay Yates

Loni Kay Yates has a goal of making it to the National Finals Rodeo a few times before she heads home to live out her dreams breeding, raising and training horses. She has a home full of great horses and is building a breeding program that she is setting up to be an extreme success.

It can sometimes come hand in hand when you train the horses that you qualify to the NFR on, that you are a capable trainer. She says she has a once in a lifetime breakaway horse and she is making his time worthwhile but her love is barrel horses.

“As far as my dream, I love raising barrel horses. I love getting on colts and I love just watching how each one develops and the bloodlines are different. That’s what really intrigues me. So I think as far as barrel horses I want to tie everything back to the futurities one day when I’m home and that’s kind of my ultimate dream,” Yates says.

Yates says that her husband, Marty, has been really good for her when it comes to competing. Between Marty and his World Champion aunt, JJ Hampton, Yates has a corner full of people that push her while also helping her figure out the mental side of the sport.

“The sky is the limit for Loni. The talent is there, obviously the backing is there, the work ethic is there. She’s got all the pieces its just the fact of putting them all together in the right spot at the right time,” Marty said.

Yates is currently just outside the Top 30 in the World in both breakaway roping and barrel racing with the summer run right around the corner.
