World Champion Tie-Down Roper Haven Meged is coming for a second Gold Buckle and he is hot on the heels of the No. 1 cowboy, Shad Mayfield.
Meged won 11 rodeos this season and will enter the Thomas & Mack sitting No. 2 in the World. This is a number that the Montana native is familiar with as he finished there at the end of the 2021 and 2023 seasons. Fresh off setting the NFR Average record a year ago, he is hoping such a performance this year pushes him over the edge and back to the top for the first time since 2019.
Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo, $4,698
The New Year started out strong when the rodeo road headed south. Meged clocked better than the rest in Odessa to get his first win of the regular season. He made the only sub-8-second run and the win went to him by three tenths of a second.
Daines Ranch Rodeo, $2,545
Things slowed down until the summer when they started to heat back up. A trip to the great white north resulted in the first of many Canadian wins for Meged. His time of 7.6 seconds would split him the title with Beau Cooper.
Ponoka Stampede, $20,062
Meged was as consistent as could be in the Ponoka performances making three solid runs in the 8-second range. He bested his own runs in the Showdown Round when he stopped the clock at 7.8 seconds to win it by two full seconds.
Williams Lake Stampede, $5,634
His Canadian success continued when he would, once again, be the only sub-8-second run in British Columbia. By eight tenths of a second, his time of 7.7 seconds earned him his third win in Canada.
The Calgary Stampede, $33,050
Sticking with the Canadian success, he cinched his biggest win of the season at one of rodeo’s most iconic venues. At the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, he would be the No. 2 tie-down roper to advance from Pool B before he left it all in the arena for the win. A blazing fast 6.7-second run in the Showdown Round would earn him his first bronze.
Canby Rodeo, $7,333
Oregon would be not only one of Meged’s All-Around titles but it would line his pockets in the tie-down roping as well. An 8.7 and an 8.3 would make Meged the No. 1 cowboy by over 1.5 seconds on two head. Ty Harris and Cash Hooper split second.
Horse Heaven Roundup Rodeo, $6,325
Meged would get faster and faster in Kennewick with each round to claim the win there as well. Starting off with an 8.2-second run and ending with a 7.0 in the Finals, his time on three head would be 22.9 seconds to split the win with Marty Yates.
That same week Meged would strike another split pay ay at the Kitsap Stampede just down the road in Bremerton. His 8.2 would tie with Paden Brady’s to add to his list of Co-Championships.
