Texas tie-down roper John Douch punched his fourth ticket to the National Finals Rodeo. Another intense year have rodeo has led up to him entering the Thomas and Mack for Round 1 as the No. 7 ranked tie-down roper in the World.
“You know, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication,” Douch says about qualifying again.
A strong start to the season, including high finishes at major Texas Swing rodeos, gave Douch some room in the winter to save horsepower and rodeos for the Summer Run.
“Every time I back in the box I’m going for first so that kind of helped me, kept a fire in me,” he said.
With his old faithful, Pistol, and a new addition from his legendary mentor, Joe Beaver, that he calls Tomcat, Douch’s horsepower going into Las Vegas only adds to the No. 7 cowboy’s confidence.
The NFR plan for the veteran is simple: stay sharp. Practice continues as normal and the excitment to return to the Thomas and Mack is a feeling that never gets old for Douch.
