Tie-Down Roper Shad Mayfield Advances at National Western With Times of 7.5 and 7.7 Seconds

Mayfield’s 15.2-second time on two head is the second-fastest of the entire rodeo through seven brackets

Shad Mayfield matched the overall Round 1 lead and won Bracket 7, Round 1 at the National Western with a 7.5-second run on Thursday afternoon in Denver.

“We have really good calves over here and I like it when there’s times for me to go after,” Mayfield said. “It was a really tough round, I knew I needed to go knock one down pretty fast and it worked out.”

He followed it up with a 7.7 in Bracket 7, Round 2 as he looks to build off of a career-best third place finish last year’s National Western.

Mayfield’s aggregate time of 15.2 seconds is second only to Tuf Cooper, who was 15.1 on two in the same bracket. Cooper leads Round 2 after a 7.1-second run Thursday night.
