Oklahoma bull rider Trey Kimzey has added another National Finals Rodeo qualification to his name making him a four-time qualifier to the big show in Las Vegas. It will be his third NFR in a row.
Kimzey battled the bubble to end up on the inside when the regular season ended. He racked up $128,455 to be the No. 13 ranked bull rider in the World.
Rodeo Austin, $27,391
Kimzey didn’t have much luck in Fort Worth, San Antonio or Houston, but the Texas Swing was finally good to him in Austin. He was one of only three cowboys that covered two bulls there and one of those rides was the only qualified ride in the Final Round. He was 89 points on Beutler and Son Rodeo’s Greeley Hat Works Bonfire. The other was a 79 in Round 2.
Cactus Jack Xtreme Bull Riding, $11,630
A trip to Uvalde in May continued Kimzey’s Texas success. He split the Round 2 win after a matchup with United Pro Rodeo’s Oak Ridge ended with an 86.5 on the board. In the Final Round, Kimzey bested his Round 2 winning score with an 88.5 to finish second in the Short Go and the Average.
Durant Pro Rodeo, $3,074
After taing a month off following his win at the Cactus Jack X Bulls, Kimzey registerd his highest marked ride of the season aboard United Pro Rodeo’s Top Gun. The two put a 90-point score on top of the leaderboard and get the win by three points over JR Stratford and Trey Benton III.
Later that same week, Kimzey picked up another win, this time at the Gladewater Round-Up Xtreme Bulls. This one came couresty of an 87-point ride on Rafter G Rodeo’s Snowshoes to be barely better than the three 86.5’s that were put up by his fellow competitors.
Cody Stampede Xtreme Bulls, $9,891
A second-place finish at the biggest X Bulls over the Fourth kicked off Cowboy Christmas for Kimzey. He drew Championship Pro Rodeo’s Yealwolf to be 86 points in Wyoming in a set of rank competition.
Ellensburg Rodeo Xtreme Bulls, $23,343
Burch Rodeo’s Fire Ant would be the bull that helped Kimzey earn over $23,000. He was four points from the win when he rode for 85. With no qualified rides in the Final Round, Kimzey wound up second in the Average as well.
The massive payday moved him from No. 19 to into the Top 15.
Pendleton Roundup, $4,700
At one of the most iconic rodeos of the summer, Kimzey went to work despite an injury. He might have been 73 in the Long Round but an 87.5 on Big Rafter Rodeo’s Silver Bullet carried enough weight to put Kimzey third in the Final Round and in the Average.
Right before the Pendleton Roundup, Kimzey won the exact same amount of money, $4,700, at the Pendelton Xtreme Bull Tour Finale. He was 88 points on Macho Man in Round 3 to earn that check.
