The one word to describe Wacey Schalla’s Resistol Rookie Year is extraordinary. The Oklahoma All-Around cowboy finished No. 27 in the bareback riding, but his performance in the bull riding has landed him a shot at a coveted Gold Buckle.
Schalla is one of three rookies that will nod his head in the bull riding at the Thomas & Mack come December. The young phenom is ranked No. 7 in the PRCA World Standings with $194,096 in regular season earnings.
Homestead Championship Rodeo, $3,924
Schalla showed off his talents early on. In late January, a matchup with Prove It of HiLo ProRodeo would wind up to be Schalla’s highest marked ride of the regular season at 91.5 points. He won the Florida rodeo by 3.5 points.
Northern Most Xtreme Bull Riding in America, $7,685
At one of the PRCA’s newer, but most exotic events, Schalla showed out once again. After nodding his head on Watermelon Sugar of Big Stone Rodeo, the win in Alaska was all Schalla’s when he beat the likes of Tristen Hutchings, Josh Frost and Clayton Sellars.
Mandan Rodeo Days, $6,302
One of Schalla’s Cowboy Christmas success stories came in North Dakota. With Sneaky Situation of Dakota Rodeo as his draw, Schalla put together an 86.5-point ride to rack up another win. It was his highest marked ride over the Fourth of July run.
Silver State Stampede, $10,046
On top of winning the All-Around title in Elko, Schalla was one of only two qualified rides in the bull riding and his trip on Frontier Rodeo’s Super Trooper would be just one point better than NFR bull rider Tristen Hutchings to cinch a hefty pay day.
Mountain Valley Stampede, $6,167
The month of August kicked off with a bang when Schalla covered Powder River Rodeo’s Fabio for 87 points. He split the Utah win with World No. 2 Hayes Weight and the duo won it by three points.
Lea County PRCA Rodeo Xtreme Bulls, $13,383
A trip to New Mexico paid well when Schalla swept the Xtreme Bulls. An 89.5-point ride on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Richard Slam won Round 1 while a matchup with Salt River Rodeo’s Crawfish would be worth 88 points in the Finals to make Schalla the No. 1 cowboy.
He followed this up with a $9,755 win at Lea County PRCA Rodeo. It would be another 89.5-point ride, this time aboard Armed Conflict of Pete Carr Pro Rodeo.
Lawton Rangers Rodeo, $7,830
There were more big rides made up the end of Schalla’s season and that included another winning ride in his home state. An 89-point ride on Hysteria of Beutler and Son Rodeo’s would be unbeatable as it was only one of two qualified rides.
Caldwell Night Rodeo, $9,808
Schalla racked up another All-Around title in Idaho and with it came the bull riding title. His 89-point ride on Powder River Rodeo’s No. 38J would win by the slim margins of half a point over Parker Breding.
