RFD-TV, Rural America’s Most Important Network, and The Cowboy Channel, the official network of ProRodeo and the first 24-hour television network totally dedicated to western sports and the western lifestyle, officially announced today their simulcast New Year’s Day broadcasting schedule featuring the 133rd Tournament of Roses Parade and RFD-TV’s Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom themed float. This year, RFD-TV and The Cowboy Channel are the only two cable networks to broadcast the Rose Parade, in addition to the major broadcast networks. RFD-TV is also the only television network to both broadcast and have a float in this year’s Rose Parade.
NEW YEAR’S DAY BROADCAST SCHEDULE
8 AM ET | Viewers can tune into either network to first watch the Tournament of Roses Equestfest, a special event held at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center where the Rose Parade’s equestrian units showcase their breeds and demonstrate their talent with performances.
10 AM ET | A one-hour Rose Parade Pre-Show featuring the making of the Mutual of Omaha “Wild Kingdom” float and a behind the scenes look at what it takes to put on the Rose Parade.
11 AM ET | Live coverage of the 133rd Tournament of Rose Parade, featuring host Pam Minick. Both RFD-TV and The Cowboy Channel will be broadcasting in high definition with limited commercial interruptions every float, equestrian unit and marching band.
This will be RFD-TV’s 11th year to broadcast the Tournament of Roses Parade and it’s 8th year to also have a float in the parade. Because of the Rose Parade’s history with all floats being covered in all-natural materials, RFD-TV has always had a special interest in not only broadcasting the Rose Parade, but also having a float in the parade to shine a light on important aspects of rural America and agriculture. This year, RFD-TV joined forces with Mutual of Omaha’s “Wild Kingdom” to promote the television show airing on the network every Sunday night at 8pm ET and to highlight the importance of conservation.
“Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom is the most loved and respected wildlife program in television history,” said Patrick Gottsch, President and Founder of Rural Media Group, parent company to RFD-TV and The Cowboy Channel. “Wild Kingdom pioneered the format now common to nature shows. Today that legacy continues with classic episodes on RFD-TV, new digital content with host Peter Gros and partnerships focused on the most important conservation causes.”
The 55-foot float’s theme features the king of the jungle leaping over a safari jeep driven by current Wild Kingdom host Peter Gros. The jeep is trailed by a menagerie of African wildlife, including a zebra and twin giraffes. Also represented on the float are a wolf, polar bear and penguins from the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as a whale and sharks emerging from the ocean. Viewers will also recognize Wild Kingdom’s legendary hosts, Marlin Perkins and Jim Fowler, who are included through photorealistic floragraphs.
The Mutual of Omaha/RFD-TV Wild Kingdom float will be covered with over 22,000 flowers, in addition to other materials. A small sampling of the organic material includes roses, carnation, mums, wildflowers, black seaweed, fine ground rice, dried spices, flax seed and Spanish moss.
“Wild Kingdom” airs as two back-to-back episodes each Sunday evening on RFD-TV in its original time slot of 8 p.m. ET viewers can enjoy the original episodes, including updated content from Peter Gros, co-host of the original “Wild Kingdom.”
