For two consecutive years, steer wrestler Will Lummus has ended the season in the second place position, trailing close behind four-time World Champion Tyler Waguespack in 2021 and 2022.
Lummus is on the hunt for his first Gold Buckle after qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo every year since 2018 and has stayed consistent as he heads to Las Vegas this December for his sixth trip to the Thomas and Mack.
Although claiming the title for Reserve World Champion is a huge accomplishment, Lummus is determined to walk away at No. 1.
“It’s something that I have used to motivate me instead of destroy me and I’ve tried to do that most of my career,” Lummus said.
Lummus secured the NFR Average Title in 2021 on Benz, the horse he has consistently competed on for the past three years, who is owned by fellow steer wrestler Clayton Hass.
Lummus and Benz kicked off their 2023 season with a big win at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo and remained on top for the majority of the season as he sits No. 4 in the PRCA World Standings with just uner $144,000 in total earnings.
