The second richest rodeo in Oklahoma took place in Woodward over the weekend. The PRCA Playoff Series event paid out about $169,000 total with each champion taking home at least $2,600.
In bareback riding, Tim O’Connell won his third PRCA Playoff Rodeo of the season with 87 points on Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Black Kat, the same horse that carried Keenan Hayes to victory at Rodeo Austin.
Ty Bauerle and Tyler Ravenscroft were both 4.1 to split the win in the steer wrestling. Ties were a theme in the big man’s event as the money for first, fourth, seventh and ninth was split.
Clint Summers/Jake Long were one tenth faster than Peyton Holliday/Kolton Good with a 4.3-second run to win the team roping. It was the pair’s first win as partners in 2023. Long won twice in January with Clay Smith as his partner while this is Summers’ first win of the season.
In saddle bronc riding, Ean Price was 87 points to take the spot. Price was paid $3,387, which is far and away the biggest check he’s gotten for a single ride this season. The previous best was $1,472 for a second place finish in Round 3 of the Prairie Circuit Finals.
In tie-down roping Zack Jongbloed got his biggest win of the 2023 season as part of his biggest weekend of the 2023 season. The Louisiana native was 7.7 seconds to win Woodward which paid him about half of the $7,500 he won across three rodeos over the weekend. Jongbloed went from No. 33 to No. 20 in the PRCA World Standings.
Speaking of making moves, Lisa Lockhart won the barrel racing to go from No. 16 to No. 12 in the PRCA World Standings. If she can hold in the Top 15 all summer, it will be her 16th straight NFR qualifiaction.
The bull riders had to be at least 81 points to get paid and Trey Kimzey topped them all with 87.5 on Beutler & Son’s Bonfire. It was his first win of the season.
Finally in breakaway roping, Taylor Munsell banked $5,433 for a 2.2-second run to beat out Shelby Boisjoli by three tenths. She is now in the Top 20 after starting the month outside the Top 30.
