World No. 1 Shad Mayfield Heads to Semifinals First in Performance 6 in Cheyenne

Mayfield is looking for a signature win during the Summer Run

Shad Mayfield is looking to extend his lead at the No. 1 man in the World after a 10.8-second run to win the final Quarterfinal Performance in Cheyenne.

Afterward, Mayfield credited his horse Lollipop for helping him take advantage of a good draw.

“Horsepower is so much (of calf roping) and Lollipop makes it so easy,” he said. “She caught that calf so fast, she’s a runner, she means a lot to me.”

Since the addition of the Semifinal Round in 2021, this marks Mayfield’s first time advancing to the Semifinals at the Daddy of ‘em All. His sole Finals appearance occurred at his Cheyenne debut in 2019.

Mayfield is nursing injuries and has announced Cheyenne will be his final rodeo before a long layoff. He is expected to return in the regular season and be healthy enough for the NFR, which he will undoubtedly enter in contention for his second Gold Buckle.
