Shad Mayfield has already opened up a lead of more than $17,000 in the PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Standings and added to it Monday night.
The five-time NFR qualifier was 8.3 seconds in Bracket 7, Round 1 in Dickies Arena to collect $2,000 in first place money and put himself in the driver’s seat to advance to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Semifinals for the second time in three seasons.
Mayfield admitted Monday’s run wasn’t the prettiest.
“Everything felt wrong right there from the start, that calf didn’t really go anywhere and right when I roped him, he stopped and went right, so things were off, but I kept moving,” he said. “That’s what it’s about, keep moving and I’m lucky to get the round win.”
The last time Mayfield made it out of his bracket in Fort Worth was 2022 and he went on to finish third that year.
Reigning World Champion Riley Webb took second Monday night as he looks to nab the other Semifinal spot.
