WPRA Athlete of the Week: Carlee Otero Brings Out the Young Palomino to Dominate in Denver

Barrel racer Carlee Otero claims the National Western title.

Carlee Otero AOW

Carlee Otero conquered the 2024 National Finals Rodeo with a broken pelvis and when she pulled into the Denver Coliseum for the first rodeo of the Winter run, the veteran cowgirl unloaded the young gun of her horsepower that would dominate the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo.

Otero and the young palomino, Leroy, clocked their fastest time in Round 1 of Bracket 2 with a 14.56-second run to win the Go-Round. The duo followed it up with a 14.57 to be second in Round 2 and that was still fast enough to be the No. 1 pair advancing to the Semi-Finals.

In the first Semi-Final, Otero once again conquered all when she stopped the clock at 14.92 seconds. Her Final Round time would come in at 14.71 to be half a second faster than the rest of the field.

Otero is your WPRA Athlete of the Week after cinching a huge win in Denver to add momentum to her 2025 season.
