Maddy Deerman backed into the box in Puyallup to end her 2023 season with a massive win. It put the National Finals Breakaway Roping in her sights if she had met the rodeo count. When the 2024 season kicked off, Deerman’s goal was Las Vegas. She is locked in after a second-consecutive win in Puyallup that also makes her your WPRA Athlete of the Week.

It would be a time of 5.4 seconds on two head that would advance Deerman onto the Semifinals and part of that Average time was made up of a 2.4-second Go-Round winning time. She split that Round 2 win with the legendary Jackie Crawford. This would be Deerman’s fastest run of the week but in true Deerman fashion, she kept a lead foot down and took it one calf at a time.

The Semifinals Round win would be hers when she stopped the clock at 2.7 seconds. This would be the fastest time of the Semifinals by three tenths of a second. She advanced to the Finals where the margins she won by dwarfed that three tenths.

Deerman’s second consecutive Puyallup Cinch Playoffs win would be courtesy of a 2.9-second run in the Final Four Round. She was blazing quick as the next fastest time would be 4.0 seconds.

The Puyallup Cinch Playoffs are equal money in the WPRA events meaning that Deerman added over $16,000 to her season earnings. She was the No. 8 ranked breakaway roper in the WPRA World Standings when she swung her Final Four loop and now, unofficially, she is just outside the Top 5 in the World at No. 6.

Deerman is your WPRA Athlete of the Week after successfully defending her Puyallup title and making her dreams of Las Vegas a reality.
