Shelby Meged did what she does best in Sioux Falls. Not only did the reigning World Champion Breakaway Roper get faster with every run she made, she backed into the box in the Final Four and made it count. The Governor’s Cup is hers and so is the title of the WPRA Athlete of the Week.

Meged entered Sioux Falls as the No. 6 ranked cowgirl in the WPRA Breakaway World Standings but her Governor’s Cup success added $30,000 to her regular season earnings.

Meged got things rolling with a 3.9 in Round before she sped it up to be 2.6 in Round 2. She advanced to the Semifinals where she clocked the fastest run of the rodeo that far with a 1.9-second run. When the Final Four came around, Meged backed into the box and went for it. The clock stopped at 1.6 seconds and she became the second back-to-back Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup Champion.

Meged’s support system played a huge roll in her dominating the field in Sioux Falls. Her husband and father gave her just what she needed to hear and it worked out all in her favor.

She has unofficially taken a huge lead in the World Standings as she prepares to go to Las Vegas and defend her Gold Buckle. Meged is your WPRA Athlete of the Week after leaving it all in the arena at the Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup.
