WPRA Athlete of the Week: Tiany Schuster and Shines By Design Make Dreams Come True in Salinas

Tiany Schuster’s 2024 season just got so much sweeter. The No. 6 ranked barrel racer in the WPRA World Standings picked up a special win at California Rodeo Salinas to be your WPRA Athlete of the Week.

This dream got started on the right foot when Schuster’s Round 1 timed came in as the fastest one to set the pace at 16.12 seconds. The week only got faster for everyone when their Round 2 time was 15.94 seconds for the Go-Round win again. A 15.97 in Round 3 put them second and the new duo went into the Final Round with $8,500 already to their names.

On Championship Sunday, Schuster and the five-year-old rock star called Shines By Design clocked the only sub-16-second run of the day. By more than two tenths of of second, they won the Finals to add yet another $3,100 to their pockets.

The success in Salinas did not stop there. Schuster claimed the top spot in the Average by one full second to receive her final payday from the California rodeo and bring her total season earnings to $83,354. This is the second fastest Average time in Salinas history.

When Schuster rolled into California Rodeo Salinas, she was getting ready to make what was her fifth run on Shines By Designs. When the curtain closed on the iconic West Coast, there was no doubt that dreams came true.
