Our NFR steer wrestling analyst, 5X World Champion Luke Branquinho, breaks down the ten days of performances at Globe Life Field.
On the highlights for him this year, Luke says, “What stuck out to me was the NFR rookies, how strong they were. You had Bridger Anderson, obviously Jacob Edler, the world champ, Jace [Melvin] ... Everybody there that was a rookie did not disappoint. They ran at the barrier and they made good runs, that was probably the highlight for me.”
NFR newbie Jacob Edler ended up winning the world title after swapping out horses. “That is impressive for an NFR rookie to make that type of business decision, knowing that it’s going to give him the best opportunity to win a gold buckle,” Luke says.
On Stetson Jorgensen, who narrowly missed winning the gold buckle but also had an exceptional NFR, Luke says, “He’s so big, he’s so strong, but he doesn’t try to use his strength. He tries to be patient, use technique and let the strength come along with it. That’s why he is so good in any situation.”
