Wyatt Denny Wins Sikeston With 90 Points in Final Performance

Wyatt Denny started off the final performance of the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo with a bang on Saturday night.

The Nevada cowboy was 90 points on Cervi Championship’s Guardian Angel to overtake Orin Larsen’s 88 from the first performance and win the rodeo.

“This time of the year is a pressure cooker, emotions run high and you just are praying for good horses,” he said. “And when you draw (a horse) like that, it’s almost more of a head game to mess it up.”

It was the second time Guardian Angel bucked in Sikeston, the first time R.C. Landingham was 85 points and Denny made sure to rib his pal a bit in his post-ride interview.

“R.C., I love you but....got you by five,” he said with a smile.

The win in Sikeston was part of a huge weekend for Denny, who entered the rodeo No. 17 in the PRCA World Standings. He was also the champion at two Utah rodeos and altogether, he won more than $10,000 to likely move into the Top 15.
